It was formed when Kisan and Jalpa Samudayik Laghubitta merged and began joint operation as Matribhumi Laghubitta on 27 Ashar 2081 (11 July 2024). The institution has a history of multiple mergers, having absorbed seven microfinance institutions (NRN, Kisan, Dibya, Creative, Ramarosan, Jalpa and Mahila Samudayik Laghubitta). Its head office is located in Lamkichuha Municipality-4, Kailali district, Sudurpashchim Province, with a corporate office in Budhanilakantha, Kathmandu. It presently operates a network of about 209 branches across 60 districts of Nepal.
